Five years, several marketing roles. One business I'm finally building.
The journey to building a communications and marketing agency in Kenya.

Stephanie Wambua
Digital Marketer
Five years ago, I stepped into the marketing world and industry.
I didn't have a perfectly mapped-out career path. I simply knew I wanted to learn, get into rooms, work on real projects and understand how businesses actually grow.
My first role was in FMCG and that was probably one of the best places I could have started.
I got to experience marketing beyond social media.
I worked with different agencies, got involved in activations, research, distributor engagement and consumer-facing initiatives. I saw what it meant to take a product to market and how many different pieces have to come together to make marketing work.
Those two years gave me a strong foundation and more importantly, made me curious about the different sides of marketing.
It was also around this time that I started asking myself a different question:
What happens when I start building my own professional brand?
So I started sharing on LinkedIn.
At the time, I was still early in my career.
I wasn't positioning myself as an expert with decades of experience. I was simply sharing what I was learning, the projects I was working on, the things I was observing and the lessons I was picking up along the way.
Through this, something interesting happened.
The more I shared, the more I learned.
The more I wrote, the better I became at articulating my thoughts.
The more conversations I had, the clearer I became about what I actually knew and where I could create value.
Eventually, I moved into digital marketing.
This was where I got much closer to the execution.
Content marketing. Social media. Email marketing. Paid advertising. Analytics. Campaigns. You name it!
Over the years, personal branding became a significant part of my work.
I started mentoring professionals and students.
I worked with people who wanted to build stronger professional brands.
I spoke about LinkedIn and personal branding.
I hosted conversations and moderated events.
Alongside all of this, I continued working in marketing.
Eventually, I realised that the different pieces of my experience were starting to connect.
Marketing strategy.
Digital marketing.
Content.
Brand positioning.
Personal branding.
Communication.
Business growth.
I was no longer just interested in creating marketing.
I was becoming increasingly interested in how businesses position themselves, communicate their value and get in front of the right people.
That realisation has been a big part of what has brought me to where I am today.
I'm building Beacova
We work with growing businesses to connect their business objectives to strategic marketing, communications and brand positioning - helping them become clearer about who they are, who they need to reach and how they should show up in the marketplace.
There is still so much I want to learn.
There are industries I want to understand better.
Businesses I want to work with.
People I want to learn from.
Teams I want to build.
Ideas I want to test.
And a firm I want to grow into something that creates value beyond just my individual work.
So, if you've been part of my journey over the years, thank you.
Some of you have followed from my early LinkedIn days.
Some have referred opportunities to me.
Some have trusted me with your brands.
Some have invited me into rooms and conversations that have shaped how I think.
Some of you have simply read my posts and sent me a message when something resonated.
All of it has mattered.
Now, I'm inviting you into the next chapter.
We are live on LinkedIn and Instagram, and we're just getting started.
We're building, learning and growing and I'd love for you to follow along.
If you know a growing business that could benefit from strategic communications, marketing and brand positioning, you can also introduce us.
Welcome to Beacova!
